Back on the Bike!!!Filled with gratitude I made my way to Fort Langley last Friday to pick up this amazing Honda Goldwing bike owned by John - a wonderful motorcycle enthusiastic who decided to exchange this machine with a new Can-am Spyder RT. After my accident I had to let go of my BMW touring machine and didn't know when and how I will ride again. Almost 2 years later I managed to get back on a bike and we had a chance to go riding several times. It didn't make sense to buy a bike as my right ankle condition deteriorated + several surgeries were scheduled, so having the opportunity to rent this bike from John served us well - Thank you John! I took this beauty for a spin - what a machine... feels like riding a hybrid between a quad on steroids and high performance sports bike. As part of our preparation for my up coming amputation surgery we decided to go on a last motorbike tour (for now...) and on Saturday morning we made our way to Winthrop, WA. Quick boarder crossing (privileges of riding a bike), 30 min south on highway I5 and then we turned East heading toward the Cascade Mountains. This is one of the most scenic fun roads in our area and the 5 hour ride to Winthrop meanders through steep canyons, gushing waterfalls, lakes and high mountain passes - what more can we ask for? We were blessed with wonderful weather, it was 23 degrees at the bottom dropping to 6 at the top than 28 on the other side - delightful! On the way Not the easiest ride for me as my foot and toes were on fire the entire time. We had to stop every hour for a stretch. I can't remember it being that bad before, and it was obvious that long rides with this condition will be challenging. I can only dream of pain free rides with my new leg down the road... Water, Water everywhere... Winthrop WA We arrived at Winthrop in the afternoon, had a lazy Mexican lunch by the river and then head up to Sun Mountain Lodge to be blown away by memorizing location, views and warm hospitality. Sun Mountain Lodge Views from our room Beautiful food, tons of wildlife (deer, dozens of birds, coyotes, pheasant, horses...) and irreplaceable quality time with my beloved Sonja. I'm so grateful to share this journey with her. Relaxed, fed, massaged and recharged we departed this wonderful place and head back to Vancouver.
Blessed again we managed to avoid riding through a big rain storm that made its way 2 hours before we crossed the high mountain pass. What a wonderful week! |
